iQOO’s 9,000mAh Neo12 is planned for China. What does the number tell buyers?

iQOO has confirmed a 9,000mAh battery and a China launch scheduled for October 28. Capacity is a specification, not a tested day of screen time.

THE SHORT VERSION

  • iQOO says the Neo12 will debut in China on October 28 at 19:00 and go on sale after the event; the planned launch is not yet a measured review or an international retail listing.
  • The company has confirmed a 9,000mAh Blue Ocean battery and 916Wh/L energy density. These are separate specifications and do not establish real mixed-use runtime.
  • The accessible announcement provides no verified charging rate or runtime protocol; buyers should wait for retail specifications and independent tests with disclosed screen, network and software settings.

A China launch is scheduled for October 28

iQOO has scheduled the Neo12 for October 28 at 19:00 China time and says the phone will go on sale after the event. The brand’s October 23 battery teaser gives the upcoming launch a concrete buyer question: does a 9,000mAh figure promise exceptional everyday endurance, or is it one specification in a larger gaming-focused design? IT Home’s October 23 report records both the battery announcement and the planned China launch.

As of October 24, the date is still in the future. That makes the right framing a pre-launch explainer, not a review or a recommendation to import. iQOO’s Neo product manager described the Neo12 as a model for players who prioritize sustained gaming performance, and the company has teased a high-refresh 2K display, cooling fan and gaming chip. A large battery fits that pitch, but it does not by itself reveal how the final phone balances weight, heat, display demand and charging.

9,000mAh and 916Wh/L describe different things

iQOO has announced a 9,000mAh Blue Ocean battery using fifth-generation silicon-anode technology, with an energy-density figure of 916Wh/L. IT Home reports that those numbers came from the company’s latest teaser. Milliamp-hours express electrical charge capacity under a stated cell convention; watt-hours are closer to the energy a battery can store, while watt-hours per liter describe energy relative to volume. They are not three ways of saying the same thing.

The 916Wh/L figure is not the amount of energy inside the phone and it does not tell you the phone’s total weight. It is a volumetric density claim about the battery design. A larger capacity may provide more energy for a given device, but the screen, modem, chip, camera and software still determine how quickly that energy is used. Comparing capacity numbers can also mislead when products use different cell voltages or measurement conventions.

The meaningful retail comparison will pair battery capacity with the complete device dimensions, mass and independent runtime results. If the Neo12 ends up heavier or thicker than a smaller-battery rival, that may be an acceptable trade for a gamer who plays away from a socket. A commuter who values a lighter phone could make a different choice. The teaser gives buyers a strong capacity number; it does not settle that personal trade-off.

Battery capacity does not establish the charge rate

The directly read IT Home report confirms the 9,000mAh battery and 916Wh/L density but does not state a charging rate or full-charge time. Those require a separate official specification and test. Capacity in mAh cannot show how quickly the battery accepts energy; input power varies through a charge and depends on adapter compatibility, temperature and battery state. A review should publish a charging curve before comparing top-up times.

The accessible announcement also gives no documented runtime protocol. A useful battery test should identify screen brightness and refresh mode, network conditions, workload and starting charge. Without those conditions, a capacity figure cannot predict how long this finished phone will last during a buyer’s mixed day.

Direct-drive power is about playing while plugged in

IT Home reports that iQOO lists Global Direct Drive Power Supply 2.0 for gaming, navigation and video playback while connected to power, and says the company claims it can reduce heat. This is a manufacturer-described plugged-in mode, not an independent temperature result or a verified charge-rate specification. It is most relevant to someone who keeps a phone connected during a long session; buyers should check the final mode and accessory requirements after launch.

For a buyer, this feature matters more if the phone regularly sits on a desk or game stand near an outlet. It matters less if the main goal is to walk through a day without carrying a charger. The practical questions are whether the mode is available in the user’s preferred games, whether it requires a particular charger or cable, and whether it can be enabled without a special software profile. The launch materials describe supported activity types, but the final settings and accessory requirements need to be checked against the retail manual.

The battery sits inside a phone designed for sustained gaming

The battery is only one part of iQOO’s performance package. The product manager’s October 10 post explains the Neo series’ focus on sustained high-load gaming and lists an active cooling fan, Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 processor, Q3 gaming chip and a 2K 185Hz display among the system’s direction. iQOO presents these features as a way to keep frame rates responsive through longer sessions; they are manufacturer positioning, not test results.

Those parts make the battery claim more relevant, but they also create more power demands. A high-refresh display can draw more energy when running at its fastest mode; a game that uses a high frame rate, wireless connection and bright screen will not behave like an offline video loop. The cooling fan and chip may also affect physical layout. A review should show whether refresh rate is adaptive, how the fan behaves under load, and whether performance stays consistent after the phone warms up.

What should be checked before importing

The October 28 event should provide retail facts missing from the teaser: price, memory and storage variants, dimensions, weight, charger contents, software region and first shipment details. A local buyer should also confirm whether the China model supports the network bands and services they rely on. The directly read IT Home report gives the planned date but does not provide those final retail terms.

Importing a China-only model can change the buying calculation even if the hardware looks compelling. Warranty service, payment apps, language defaults, network bands and access to the local app store can affect daily use. Those are model- and market-specific questions, so a buyer should compare the exact regional SKU before placing an order. A product release in one country is not evidence that the same package will be sold elsewhere.

The first reviews should answer a different question than the teaser

After retail units reach reviewers, look for full-day tests with a stated workload and screen settings rather than another headline number. A useful comparison would show a gaming loop, mixed social and navigation use, standby drain, top-up speed from a known starting level, and heat while playing on the charger. Those measurements would reveal whether the large cell solves an actual use case and how much the display, cooling system and software profile contribute.

Until those tests exist, the supported conclusion is narrower: iQOO announced a 9,000mAh battery, a 916Wh/L density claim, a China launch plan, and a direct-drive feature for use while plugged in. The accessible announcement does not verify a charging rate or mixed-use runtime. Those questions remain open for the retail specification and repeatable tests.
